My thoughts . . . . . .
Dear Capitolites,
Welcome to your school.
Charles Read once advised young ones, “Sow an Act, Reap a Habit; Sow a Habit, Reap a Character; Sow a Character, Reap your Destiny.”
Your school is the first step in your life to build your destiny. It depends how well you build your character. This is based on your actions. So, my dear students, start acting positively, with a noble purpose.
“Action speaks louder than words”. Let your positive actions proclaim who you are or who you want to be. Speak less, do more. Your actions should not be, for instant, recognition.
Charles Lamb said, “The greatest pleasure I know, is to do a good action by stealth and to have it found out by accident.” So, your action should not be for getting kudos at the time of action, but to prepare yourselves to be one which the world remembers for ever and be proud of. It should be to avoid a situation, as Rabindranatha Tagore warned, “Unwept, Unhonoured and Unsung” when you are not there ! Your actions must be well planned, should have a clear road map to achieve the noble goal.
What is that goal ? As W. E. Henley once said, “I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul”, should be your goal. Let this courage and conviction guide you. Then, you can be a thing of beauty, which brings joy to you and everyone around you, as John Keats proclaimed, “A thing of beauty is joy for ever.”
Wish you all the best.
