First term Newsletter for the year 2009-10
Dear Parents,
We are very happy to present to you our first term highlights. The school re-opened on 26th May for teachers and 2nd June for students this year and all the students received our first school magazine “DHWANI-Voice of Capitol” (2006-2009).
Special Assembly:
- World Environment Day was celebrated to create awareness about environmental issues on June 5th through songs, skits and talk by students of different classes. 1st std students planted saplings in the school park.
- Children of UKG dressed as their favorite family member and spoke like them on 3rd July.
- Teachers presented puppet show for the pre-primary children on 12th July.
- How Children Think? An educational CD developed by Mindspark was shown to 4th STD students which dealt with misconception among students about some of the mathematical concepts on July 14th.
- Public Speaking by students of I std on their favorite national Leader on 17th July.
- Students & Staff were oriented on Swine flu and measures to prevent it.
- Pre-Primary children presented a skit on Kittur Rani Chennamma.
- Representative from Help Age India spoke to the children and a video show was organized
on the status of elderly in our society. Our students and staff took up the initiative to
collect funds to help the elderly and an amount of Rs.65,000 was handed over
to the organization.
Special Activities:
- Students of 5th and 6th std are linked to the Newspaper in Education (NIE) initiative by HINDU and are participating in their skills building programme every I and III Wednesdays.
- Launch of Child Health Education Reformative Integrated Services(CHERI) an Amelio Medicorp initiative on June 6th which conducts workshops for teachers, children and parents and provides the newsletter Children’s times with interesting facts and educational articles regarding health issues.
- Students of classes 2nd, 3rd,4th are enrolled in Abacus classed conducted on Wednesdays and Fridays every week.
- Children’s Movement for civic awareness(CMCA) a voluntary organization trains our students of 7th and 8th on civic awareness every week and they also participated in the celebrations of 10th anniversary of CMCA at St. Joseph’s High school
- Orientation on Fire safety and mock fire drill was conducted for all students in our school premises by resource persons from the Jayanagar Fire station on 27th July.
- Our students of class 7th and 8th presented a project named “Jala-shodha” at the National level Science Exhibition conducted at JSS Public School on August 18th.
- CHERI resource people conducted a session on ‘Green School Rating’ to orient the students of 9th std in conducting an environment assessment of the school.
- First aid training was conducted by CHERI for all staff and students of 9th and 10th and were enrolled as members of Z team as first alders for the school.
- Students took the IAIS competitive exams in collaboration with Macmillan in various subjects.
- Literary club is conducted every Tuesday for selected students of 4th and 7th std to enhance English language skills among students.
- Life Skills sessions once a week for students of 5th -10th std and quality circle time through games to improve whole school discipline has been initiated.
- Students of capitol school and staff participated actively in conducting the felicitation of CBSE toppers of Class X and class XII in close collaboration with Bangalore-Sahodaya at the MLR convention centre, Brigade Millenium. The students presented an invocation song and helped as volunteers.
Inter-School Competititons
- Students participated in the competitions like debate, web designing held at Mirambika school and won prizes.
- Students were also sent to participate in the ISKCON Heritage Fest in events like colouring, painting, rangoli, vedic quiz, music and dance and won prizes.
- 5th std students participated in March past and volley ball events conducted by Sahodaya.
- The Taek-wondo students from 1st to 5th std competed in the National level Taek-wondo event at Chennai and won many medals.
Events:
- The Investiture Ceremony was held on July 15th and the student council for the year 2009-10 were nominated.
- Independence day was a low key event due to Swine flu.
- Dr. Maria Montessori Birthday was celebrated on 29th August and a workshop on “How to distress yourself so you don’t stress your child” and tips on positive parenting by Parul Malik a renowned counselor was organized for parents of Nursery and Pre-Nursery children.
- Student hosted event on Teacher’s day was a very joyous occasion for all teachers who became observers for the budding teachers and took active part in all the games organized by the students. Staff welfare committee was also started on this day.
- Pidilite industries organized a drawing and colouring competition for students of various classes.
- Students club for CMCA activities called “Capitol Rangers” has been launched 2nd Septemebr’2009.
- Nutrition Day was celebrated on 12th September’2009. Dr.Swathi Yadav had spent a morning with pre-primary parents demonstrating how to make the lunch boxes interesting & attractive.
Exposure visits:
- Students of Class 7th -10th were taken to High court to observe the conduct of judicial proceedings in two batches. The students were thrilled to witness real case handling by lawyers.
- A visit to the Planetarium was an exciting experience for students of 3rd and 4th std and learn about our magnificent solar system.
Continuous Staff development:
- The teachers of Pre-Primary and 1st std attended the I –Math training.
- All teachers attended workshop on Theory of Multiple Intelligence conducted by Dr. Stanley, Associate Dean of Jain Institutions.
- Edurite training which integrates technology and classroom teaching through interactive board, powerpoint presentation, animations, videos for CBSE for the subjects like science, social and maths was attended by all teachers. Regular refresher trainings are also conducted.
- Alma mater workshop on “Subject Plus” which defines the role of the teacher much more than teaching the particular subject and inculcating values, punctuality, discipline and various positive qualities among students was attended by teachers.
- Mrs.Sudha Chandrasekhar and Mrs. Mahalakshmi Venkataraman attended a workshop on use and power of the internet and the connected world conducted by Dr.Ramana, IBM, Bangalore at Gear International School. He stressed upon the ideas, use and power of the Internet and the connected World.
- In-house workshop on teaching English language to primary students was conducted by our Vice-Principal Mrs. Jayashree.
- In-house workshop on Activity based teaching for the Pre-Primary teachers was conducted by our Principal(Academics) Mrs. Mahalakshmi.
- All the subject teachers attended an orientation session on CBSE expectations of teachers and making learning more interesting for children through various hands on activities in the classroom conducted by team of experts from Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.
- The science teachers had an exciting time at the Vani Education Centre where Bangalore-Sahodaya had organized training on hands on science activities for the primary students and visit to their school science Museum.
- Maths teachers were invited for a workshop on Maths activities for 9th and 10th std at Jyothi Kendriya Vidyalaya.
- The Principal and Secondary school coordinator had attended the interesting & informative ‘Staff Performance Appraisal’ workshop conducted by EDUCON (Education Consultancy Services) at Mathagondapalli Model school on 11th September’2009.
